Movie Review 5: Singin’ in the Rain

Singin’ in the Rain
Rating: G                                                                                                        Runtime: 1 hr. 42 min.
I was flipping channels and found Singin’ in the Rain and decided to give it a watch. This movie is about an actor, Don Lockwood, who falls for a singer, Kathy Seldon, but their relationship is put to the test when Don’s onscreen girlfriend causes trouble for Kathy.
Pro: Although the plot line is not unique, but it does not take away from how well the movie is acted. The movie flowed very nicely. The incorporation of song made the typical boy meets girl movie better. The physical part of the movie, like the tap dancing, looks flawless and so easy, but knowing that the dances require a lot of physical determination and energy. Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds make the entire dancing look easy; you can tell they had to do a lot of training to play that role
Con: Even though the movie was amazing, the Broadway number was the most pointless performance in the whole movie. The scene had no point to it. The only acting that was bad was Jean Hagen’s portrayal of Lina Lamont. The acting was so frustrating and the character, Lina Lamont, was so annoying, it was hard to sit through a scene with her in it.
Overall:  The movie was good for a musical and I enjoyed watching it. Even though I am not a big fan of musicals, Singin’ in the Rain was a nice movie and I do recommend it.

Movie Review 4 The Graduate

The Graduate
Rating: PG                                                                                                       Run Time: 1 hr. 46 min.
I was exploring Netflix recently and came across The Graduate. The simplest summary, I can give for this movie; a college graduate is at home the summer trying to decide what he wants to ends up having an affair with his parents’ friend, Ms. Robinson, but is taken with the woman’s daughter when she comes home.
Pro: The actors and the actresses in The Graduate really made their characters come to life with the way they portray them. Dustin Hoffman’s character, Benjamin Braddock, is shown as an uncomfortable and awkward person. With a combination of a storyline with a taboo relationship and the awkward but perfect performance given by Hoffman makes the character of Ben even more believable in this film. The confidence that is exerted from Anne Bancroft during her performance as Mrs. Robinson gives off a certain power and persuasion that leads Ben into having the affair.
Con: However, with stellar performances some of the main character gave, the acting of Ben’s parents and Mr. Robinson were lacking. Even though they didn’t have major and important roles, their portrayals of their characters were dull. Sometimes during certain senses, Ben can become annoying because of his lack of motivation. The relationship between Elaine and Ben was a bit dull even though the actions Ben was taking to be with her were outrageous; there was no chemistry between the pair.
Overall: I loved The Graduate. The theme can be applied to everyone. Maybe the situation with Ben, Elaine, and Ms. Robinson is not the most relatable thing, but the idea of change and growing up and finding yourself in the real world is very relatable.

Movie Review 3 Citizen Kane

Citizen Kane
Rating: PG                                                                                   Run Time:  1 hour and 59 minutes

I recently decide to watch the classic movie, Citizen Kane, because there are many claims that it is the greatest film of all time. The most basic summary that I can give this movie is Orson Welles’ character, Charles Kane, has died and his last words were rosebud. A swarm of reporters attempt to piece together the life of the Mr. Kane, in order, to find out the meaning rosebud. The movie is told through flashback by people that Kane had encounter during the rise and fall of his lifetime.
Pro: The performance given by Orson Wells as Kane was well acted and believable. The makeup work done to Orson Wells to make him look like his is aging makes the aging look fantastic. The set designs used in the making of the movie are done perfectly. They illustrate the life Kane lived.
Con: Ruth Warrick, the actress who played Emily, was very monotone and serious. Although I understand the serious appearance the character has, it caused the scenes that include her to be boring and dull. The ending for me was a bit of a letdown but I understand why the director left it like that.
Overall: Citizen Kane, in my opinion, is not the number one film of all time, but all in all, it is a great film. Even though I think it’s not number one, I’m sure during 1941, when the film came out, it topped at number one. The most amazing thing about this film is that many films and TV shows have references the movie. I do recommend this movie because after 74 years that movie is holds up very well.

Movie Review 2 Jurassic World

Jurassic World
Rating: PG-13                                                                        Run Time: 2 hours and 5 minutes.

This movie recently came out in theaters and is currently a must see on everyone’s list. The movie is sort of a sequel the older Jurassic Park movies. The movie takes place in Costa Rica; Jurassic World is a resort that has over 100 of different species of dinosaurs. A couple of the dinosaurs are genetically altered to help bring in more people to the resort. One of the genetically alter dinosaur breaks out of his cage and begins to terrorize the tourists. Two of the tourists are boys that are related to the owner of the park, and the brothers have been separated with the travel group. The main character Owen, played by Chris Pratt, is tasked with finding a way to stop the dinosaur and find the two boys.
Pros: The movie was great; Chris Pratt and Bryce Howard did a fantastic job acting. Some of the best things about the movie were the throwbacks to the older movies. The movie was entertaining throughout; there were no dull moments. The set design was beautiful and the dinosaurs looked realistic. The plot of the movie was superb; there are a lot of little plot lines that will most likely expand into the sequel.
Cons: Although the movie was great, one of the biggest flaws was that it didn’t live up to the hype. Everyone was expecting to see something like the first Jurassic Park, but trying to recreate something that big will always be impossible.
Overall: I think the movie was remarkable; it had everything I wanted and more.

Movie Review 1 World War Z

World War Z
Rating: PG-13                                                                Run Time: 1 hour and 56 minutes

I watched this movie a few days ago; I thought that Brad Pitt had an excellent performance. The basic premise of the movie is Brad Pitt’s character; Gary Lane UN investigator is traveling the world trying to find a cure for the zombie outbreak.  Time is against him because he must find a way to spot or slow down the outbreak before this family gets hurt. This is a classic action/ apocalyptic movie; it has scenes that demonstrate a zombie apocalypse perfectly.
Pros: Great cast, Brad Pitt and James Dale had a perfect connection the whole movie. Well-executed scenes, the movie has very well directed scenes for example the when they were in the city when the first outbreak happened. Fantastic visuals, the large panning shots of Jerusalem’s Wall made the outbreak look more realistic.
Cons: The make up for the zombies was not that great, after watching the walking dead we have a certain idea of what zombies should look like, the ones in World War Z did not deliver.  The second problem is the movie didn't stick to the book that much, the book had some chapters that would have been great for the movie, but instead they were cutout.
Overall: This is a good movie, it has a flaw or two, but I would watch this movie again. If you have read the book, you may not like it as much.

About Me

The topic I have chosen is to write about entertainment, more specifically about video games, movies and TV shows. I picked this topic because I am interested in these things. If I am not hanging out with friends, I tend to play games or watch movies and TV shows. This is something that almost everyone does; I can help out by giving my honest opinion on these categories and help people make decisions on what to do with their free time.
Playing video games is one of my favorite things to do, I can remember playing my first game, and it was Super Mario bros. Super Mario Bros was a classic growing up, it was simple to play and had many levels. My friends and I would come home from school and play Super Mario Bros all day. That was when I first got into gaming.
My favorite movie of all time has to be, Toy Story 2. It was the first movie that I was obsessed with; I must have watched the movie over 10 times in the theaters. I really like watching movies because it lets you watch something that has always been in your head, on the big screen. After a few short years, I have probably watched over 300 different movies.
The first TV show I really got into was Top Gear in 2003. I still follow the show today, over 10 years later. I like watching TV because it is entertaining, and even educational.  I have followed many different series in the last few years, many of which are still going now. TV shows changed over the last few decades, many people follow TV shows week-to-week wanting to know what the next episode is about.

I have spent hours playing bad and even broken video games, watching garbage movies with no plot, and watching TV shows that were bad after the first season. I have regretted the purchase of many movie tickets, video games, and time spent following a show.  I wish I had read a review before I bought the games, or started watching. That is why I have created a blog where I can tell you about all the games, movies and TV shows I have played and watched. Plus including whether or not it was a waste of time and money, so you can make the best of your free time.
